About Gerard

Gerard Babendreier (a.k.a. “Babo”) returned in 2011 to the faculty of The Heights after a lengthy hiatus. Born in Washington, DC and raised in Silver Spring, MD, he attended The Heights for seventh through twelfth grades, graduating in 1980. He then attended Columbia University in New York City, leaving there in 1984 with a B.A. in Latin, after which he moved to Boston, MA to run a small business for one year, followed by a three year stint as a Victim Witness Advocate for the Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office. At that point, Babo began his teaching career, first for two years at The Collegiate School, back in New York City, followed by his first return to The Heights, where he taught high-school Latin and middle-school History and coached varsity soccer, for five years, from 1990-1995 (with Alvaro de Vicente as his assistant coach for the last four years). He then headed back to the Boston area, where he earned a J.D. degree from Harvard Law School in 1998. After a two-year clerkship on the Maryland Court of Appeals, Babo worked as a litigator for eleven years (all while his son Stephen attended The Heights as a “lifer”), first in local area civil courts, as an Associate with the Washington, DC law firm of Shaw, Pittman, Potts & Trowbridge, then as a securities regulator for six years, with the National Association of Securities Dealers (“NASD”) and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (“FINRA”). Babo is thrilled to be back at The Heights once again teaching, coaching and mentoring, as well as providing legal assistance to the school as its General Counsel.
