About Lionel

Dr. Yaceczko has taught regular and online courses to all ages at the primary, secondary, and postsecondary levels, as well as summer programs for inner city boys in Chicago and Washington, D.C.

Lionel’s research is focused on Late Antiquity (ca AD 180-800), with a doctoral dissertation on education in the later Roman Empire. He has also worked in academic publishing.

His articles have been published in Studies in Late Antiquity, The Medieval Review, Crisis MagazineHeightsForum.org, and Cavalcade. He is the author of Jerome’s Introduction to Latin (2021), an introductory Latin textbook based on the Vulgate (the Latin version of the Scriptures), and of Ausonius Grammaticus: The Christening of Philology in the Late Roman West (Gorgias Press, 2021), the story of the revolution in classical education that occurred in the fourth century Roman Empire, told through the life of Ausonius of Bordeaux.

Lionel lives in Laurel with his wife Janet (another Latinist) and five children.
